Well, I didn’t make it to the World Cup, and to be honest I am quite glad I didn’t. If you would like some authentic South African FIFA world cup atmosphere while reading this post then click here. No, I did not make it, and as an Englishman I would have been ashamed to show my face around fans of better teams from around the world.
Never mind, life carries on apace, and it looks like pretty soon I will be in the Southern Hemisphere anyway. Australia to be specific. It will be the first time I have ever been to Australia actually, and I am a little nervous. Mainly it is the wildlife that worries me. Poisonous spiders, the most deadly snakes in the world and crocodiles, and that is just the start, add into the mix wallabies, kangaroos and emus, and it sounds positively inhospitable.
Seriously though, my only real worry is which city would be the best choice for flights to Australia, flights to Melbourne, flights to Sydney even flights to Brisbane would all do me more or less as well for connections to where I want to go. The thing is, I will have a little free time, and after a flight that long, I would like to be able to say that I saw some sights. I guess that must mean that Sydney is the choice I will go for. The Opera house, all that. Just trying to wrap my head around the fact that it is mid winter there. Crazy!
