What is happening in Pakistan right now is unbelievable, but what’s more unbelievable is how little attention it is getting. If what is happening right no over there was happening in Europe or in some place like Florida or Louisiana in the USA then there would be non-stop coverage. As it is there is barely a mention of the Pakistan floods anywhere. In case you don’t know what is happening here is a clip of a news report about it:

Basically the heavy rains from Cyclone Yemyin have wreaked massive amounts of havoc across much of Pakistan. Literally millions of survivors are in serious trouble, to say nothing of the thousands who have already died. People are stranded, people are drowning. Homes, farms everything has been washed away in some areas. Of course it its the very poorest who have been hit hardest, those forced to live in areas prone to flooding.

The humanitarian situation is really terrible right now. I would urge anybody reading this to seriously consider doing something to help, perhaps making a Pakistan flood donation with Oxfam or another organisation.

Governments are doing what they can to help, with the Pakistan military trying to distribute aid. Apparently the US military will be helping out as well, which some people, unbelievably, are criticizing them for. Non governmental organisations are definitely going to be needed to help, just because of the sheer scale of what has happened. Literally millions of people have lost their homes and are now having real difficulties sorting out the basic necessities of life.

Food and shelter are two obvious needs that the survivors are having to address, but ironically it is water that is in the shortest supply. The floods have managed to contaminate the wells that were the only source of clean drinking water in these areas, and now diseases like cholera are spreading fast.
